Our Story

Serve began when Mic and Hats met through a rebrand for Mic’s bakery and quickly realised they were facing the same challenge: their businesses were growing, but the space around them wasn’t. Inspired by creative hubs they’d seen elsewhere - and the lack of anything similar in the North Yorkshire region - they decided to build what they couldn’t find.

Serve is a shared space for creativity, connection, and real work, created to tackle the isolation of working alone and support more sustainable ways of working in the creative world. Built by this generation of makers, it exists to inspire the next - proving that creativity is a profession, not a pastime.

As mums to four young daughters between them, Mic and Hats understand the juggle of building businesses alongside family life. That lived experience shapes Serve into a space built with flexibility, understanding, and inclusivity at its core - welcoming creatives at every stage and in every season.

How she shows up

Serve was created to champion collaboration over competition. It's a space where women can create, connect, and share their skills with confidence and pride.

  • Confidence, creativity, and community come first. We lead with boldness, joy, and energy in everything we do.

  • We embrace the mess, the milestones, and the moments in between - because authenticity beats perfection every time. No gatekeeping,- we share what we know, admit when we don’t, and keep things real.

  • Collabs are is our love language - we share skills, space, and stories to help each other grow. Serve is built on connection and community and everyone gets a seat at the table.

  • Because creativity is real work - and we’re here to make it visible and valued. It’s not a hobby, not a side hustle, not something we do just for fun. We’re here to prove that making things can make a living.

“this is the start of me trying to figure out how to spark more joy from what i do for a living.”
